my.usenetbin.net is an Internet Service Provider (ISP). We do not author or purchase content, but instead provide a gateway into the Usenet global internet discussion group service. As a result, content that users post to the service from any point in the world may appear here. Like any ISP we move terabytes of data every day, and cannot pre-editorialize content on the Usenet network.

In general, the online community is very well behaved about not posting illegal or inappropriate content, but it does happen. This page is to allow our users to let us know if they find this content on the site, so we may remove it.

There is a large amount of adult content on the Usenet which will appear on my.usenetbin.net. In general, we do not consider this inappropriate or subject to removal. Internet services are not bound by local standards of prurient interest as are some other venues. We leave self-editorialization up to our users.

  • my.usenetbin.net will be the final decisionmaker on whether any given material should be removed.
  • We will not normally contact you regarding our decision, but we may if we have questions.
  • It may take some time for the content to come down off our site.
  • We can only remove the content from our site, we cannot remove it from the Usenet network.
  • If the content is reposted on the Usenet in a different group or at a later date, we cannot insure it will not appear on the site again.

Usenet Child Pornography Policy

  • my.usenetbin.net defined child pornography (CP) as defined in US Code: Title 18, Section 2256.
  • my.usenetbin.net does not support any form of CP.
  • my.usenetbin.net will remove any reported CP from its servers in a timely manner.
  • my.usenetbin.net accepts reports of CP at abusereports@usenetbin.net
OUR POLICY
  • my.usenetbin.net provides access to a worldwide network of peer-to-peer servers that exchange information. The information can be text files or binary files of any type. Individuals upload (post) files (articles) to the servers. This network is called Usenet.
  • Currently, Usenet has over 100,000 peer-to-peer hosts and over 60 million individual participants worldwide. Over 1 million articles (text or binary) are uploaded each day. my.usenetbin.net provides access to any article that an individual has posted to any server that is part of Usenet.
  • There are no restrictions or rules that govern the content an individual may post to Usenet. There are individuals that will post illegal content, such as CP. If we are alerted to it, it is our policy to remove it.
  • To report any CP that was posted to Usenet, please send the URL and/or Message-ID's of the posts to abusereports@usenetbin.net
  • You can find the Message-ID in the header of the post. There is a header for every Usenet post. It includes information such as the poster's email address, date, subject line, etcetera.
  • If you have any questions about our policy, you can direct them to abusereports@usenetbin.net

my.usenetbin.net aspires to maintain a full Usenet service with no censorship for the purpose of restricting expression, yet recognizes that Internet Service Providers should maintain legitimate due care in adopting standards that reflect global societal legal consensus, which we recognize is difficult to define. It is reasonable to discern that child pornography laws have significant jurisdictional consensus. In addition, child pornography is a significantly different issue from obscenity. U.S. child pornography law is not targeted at restricting access to expression, it is written to prevent the sexual exploitation of minors in the process of producing the content. Thus, my.usenetbin.net reserves the right to not carry a newsgroup when its title clearly implies violations of child pornography laws. This policy specifically applies to newsgroups that are primarily used for transmitting binary/picture files containing child pornography. my.usenetbin.net cannot guarantee effective filtering of all child pornography, as the technical nature of Usenet and the fact that epix® does not monitor content, makes this an impossible task.
Accordingly, my.usenetbin.net will not carry the newsgroups listed below, under the guidance of this policy. This list may change from time to time, and every effort will be made to maintain a current list of blocked groups herein.

In April 2009, we removed the 18 groups below along with other similar named groups related to child pornography in response to a request from legal authorities. Though I don't believe we were under any legal obligation to do this, it was not something we felt was wise to try and defend.
